God Likes Long Odds
I’m just back from Hunting Park Christian Academy where I joined four members of our Mission Committee for a morning at this remarkable place. Our tour guide was a vivacious sixth grader named Yerlitza accompanied by Jen Deane, the Director of Development, who many of you met last spring when she helped interpret the work and ministry of HPCA during our Sunday worship services.
From Noah facing a flood of evil and 100% chance of rain to the shepherd boy David taking on nine foot nine Goliath, it seems that our God likes long odds. From 5 loaves and two fish for 5,000 hungry people to twelve misfit disciples to turn the whole world upside down, it seems that our God is willing to take long odds. At Hunting Park Christian Academy, God is taking long odds and the children and their families in one of Philadelphia’s toughest neighborhoods are the winners. Continue reading

Foul Balls and Common Grace
Have you seen the replay of the little girl whose daddy caught the foul ball at Tuesday’s Phillies game? Take a look. Before Major League Baseball Inc. took them all down, there were scores of You Tube postings of the scene. It plays better with the sound off.

Truth in a Post-9/11 World
This post comes to you from Memphis, Tennessee, where I am spending a few days with our youngest daughter. I’ll be back in Langhorne late Saturday night. Finding the Right Answers
This past Wednesday evening our newest group of confirmation kids gathered for food (pizza made by the students), fellowship and information on this year’s class journey. Chet Marshall, Carol Casten and Joe Franzi are returning on September 13 as the Sunday morning teaching team and Barb Chase and I will be with the kids for their first-Sunday-evening-of-the-month classes beginning in October.
